Box Office: Black Panther 2 Clocks A Record-Breaking Opening Weekend Worldwide

Los Angeles, November 14 - Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominated the domestic as well as the overseas box office in its opening weekend. The superhero movie grossed a mighty $331.3 million worldwide. ## The sequel to the 2018's film demolished the record for a November opening in North America with $181 million, storming past the previous record mark of $158 million set by 2013's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Overseas, it minted $150.3 million from 55 markets.## The $250 million budget flick could have achieved more had it been released in China and Russia, two huge theatrical markets where Marvel and other major Hollywood movies are no longer releasing due to various reasons. The first "Black Panther" grossed $1.4 billion globally, including $105 million in China and $19 million in Russia. ## "Wakanda Forever" has the second biggest opening weekend of 2022 at the domestic (North America) box office, behind the $187.4 million debut of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". Los Angeles, November 11 - Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever scored the 6th biggest Thursday previews opening for a Marvel film with $28 million at the domestic (North America) box office. ## The blockbuster sequel topped the original "Black Panther" which scored $25.2 million in 2018 but fell short of fellow 2022 Marvel titles "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" ($36M) and "Thor: Love and Thunder" ($29M). Overall, Black Panther 2's previews rank as the 15th top preview performance in Hollywood history. ## Ryan Coogler's directorial is eyeing a $180 million opening weekend domestic gross, which is short of its predecessor's $202 million start. DC superhero flick Black Adam are unlikely to release in China, the biggest movie market in the world, according to The Hollywood Reporter.## The Beijing regulators continue to crack down on American movies, particularly Marvel/Disney. The market of Hollywood movies in China has reduced drastically over the last few years but still, the snubbing of top-tier superhero titles is costing the studios tens of millions of lost potential revenue. ## While the official word on the ban on "Black Panther 2" is awaited, THR reports that the film's denial comes as little surprise given the recent track record of Marvel movies in the Middle Kingdom. The first "Black Panther", which was released in 2018, grossed $105 million in China.## China has been a big market for Marvel films, however, since the covid-19 pandemic, the scenario has changed for the studio to get permission to release the film there. Over the last year or so, China has banned Marvel titles - "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (2021) and "Eternals" (2021) along with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) and others.## Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam", which was released a couple of weeks ago and has already crossed $320 million worldwide, has also reportedly been banned in China. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Advance Sales Crosses $45 Million In The US

Los Angeles, November 9 - Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated superhero sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to take a huge opening at the domestic (North America) as well as overseas box office. In North America, the movie will open in approx. 4300 theaters.## The sequel to director Ryan Coogler's 2018's film has already scored $45 million in advance sales in the US, and by the time it hit screens, the advance booking is expected to reach $60 million - $65 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ## As of Sunday, "Wakanda Forever's" advance ticket sales in the U.S. stood at $45 million, which is more than "Thor: Love and Thunder" but behind "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness", as per THR. In North America, the projection for the opening weekend is around $185 million while the overseas projection is approx. $180 million, cumulative suggesting a blockbuster start. ## Meanwhile, "Wakanda Forever" is also being adored by the critics who were heavily criticized for the recently released DCEU flick "Black Adam". "Black Panther 2's" critics' score currently stands at 88% from 128 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It is, however, low compared to its predecessor which scored 96% score. ## The sequel's journey to the big screen endured its own tragedy when Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular role of T'Challa/Black Panther in the 2018 film, died of colon cancer in August 2020.
