Box Office: Sooryavanshi Sets Eyes On Rs. 200 Crores After Strong Second Week Finish

Mumbai, November 19 - Akshay Kumar-fronted "Sooryavanshi" is still in the race to become Bollywood's first Rs. 200 crore net collection film during the covid-19 pandemic. After finishing the first week on high, the cop-drama maintained the stronghold in the second week as well with a drop of 62% (on par with the pre-covid level) for Rs. 45.57 crores. ## Directed by hit master Rohit Shetty, "Sooryavanshi" currently stands at Rs. 166.23 crores net and Rs. 196.15 crore gross in India. Overseas, it has grossed Rs. 53 crores so far, for its total worldwide gross of Rs. 249.15 crores. It will cross Rs. 250 crore gross on its third Friday at the worldwide box office. ## While "Sooryavanshi" has paved the way for upcoming Bollywood biggies, Rs. 200 crore India net will be a landmark foot if it is able to achieve. Yash Raj Films' "Bunty Aur Babli 2", which opens today (Nov. 19), received negative reviews from critics and audiences, which will directly benefit "Sooryavanshi" to keep the momentum going for one more week until "Satyameva Jayate 2" and "Antim - The Final Truth" arrive on Thursday (Nov. 25) and Friday (Nov. 26), respectivly. ## "Sooryavanshi" is Akshay Kumar's 5th highest-grossing film at the India box office. If it enters Rs. 200 crore club, then it will cross "2.0" (190.48 cr.), and possibly "Mission Mangal" (203.08 cr.) to finish in the top 3 highest-grossing films. For Katrina Kaif, who plays the female lead, "Sooryavanshi" is the 6th best-grossing film, and will definitely enter the top 5 by crossing "Bang Bang" (174.51 cr.), by the end of this week. ## Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty Picturez, Dharma Productions, and Cape of Good Films, "Sooryavanshi" is the 4th film in Shetty's cop universe. Ranbir Kapoor's maiden collaboration with Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, "Animal", which was originally announced for Dussehra 2022 release, has now been pushed to 11 August 2023 by T-Series.## "Animal" is a crime drama film that is currently under the pre-production stage. It will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Pranay Reddy Vanga, and Murad Khetani under the production banners of T-Series, Bhadrakali Pictures, and Cine1Studios.## The movie was announced on 1st January 2021. Mumbai, November 18 - Actor-comedian Vir Das is getting into trouble for his monologue "I come from two Indias", which he recited at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC, a few days ago. An FIR against him has been registered in Mumbai, and now, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had demanded an apology from him for his remarks.## Das, in his 6-minute satire video, talked about the duality of the country as he touched upon topical issues like the battle against COVID-19, incidents of rapes, farmers protests, a crackdown against comedians and petrol prices. ## B N Tiwari, President of FWICE, said that the federation will not let Das work in the industry until he apologises for his remark. "What he said was disgusting. We won't support him unless he apologises. Wherever he shoots, we will try to stop him, continue with our non-cooperation with him. For us, the nation is first. You can't defame the nation to earn money. We strongly object to what he said". ## "He should publicly apologise in front of the entire nation, there is no other solution. FWICE members won't work with him. The movie will have two leading ladies, and as per reports, Disha Patani and Raashii Khanna will be sharing screen space with the in-demand actor. Mumbai, November 18 - Bollywood filmmakers have started booking 2023 slots for their upcoming films. After Shahid Kapoor's yet to go on floors "Bull" was announced for 7 April 2023 release by T-Series, the studio has now booked Republic Day 2023 for Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's untitled romantic comedy. ## Directed by Luv Ranjan, the movie was earlier announced for 18 March 2022 arrival date in theaters. However, with the movie is still in production and with not a big enough slot available in March or the rest of the year 2022, the makers choose to release the film in 2023 instead. Mumbai, November 17 - Nearly a month ago on October 21, producers Bhushan Kumar, Amar Butala, and Garima Mehta jointly announced their next big-budgeted film "Bull" featuring Shahid Kapoor in the title role. While the shooting of the film is yet to commence, makers have already set the release date. To be directed by debutante Aditya Nimbalkar, "Bull" will be hitting theaters on 7 April 2023. ## Set in the 1980s, "Bull" is inspired by events from the life of Brigadier Bulsara, who led Operation Cactus in 1988 in the Maldives to help Maldivian forces to take back control of the country after a group made a coup attempt of Maldivians led by businessman Abdullah Luthufi and assisted by armed mercenaries of a Tamil secessionist organization from Sri Lanka, the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE). ## "Bull is a full-blown action film inspired by real events from the life of Brigadier Bulsara", Shahid had said earlier. Mumbai, November 16 - It took one big shot for the Bollywood film industry to regain its lost kingdom. Akshay Kumar-starrer "Sooryavanshi", which is the biggest Bollywood film in the last 18 months, has become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2021 at the worldwide box office. ## Rohit Shetty-directed cop drama has grossed ₹ 234 crores worldwide over 11 days and surpassed Thalapathy Vijay's Tamil blockbuster "Master", which grossed approx ₹ 223 crores at the worldwide box office. "Sooryavanshi" has netted ₹ 155.73 crores, which is the highest for an Indian film in 2021. ## Internationally, "Sooryavanshi" has grossed ₹ 50.37 crores so far, which is again the biggest overseas box office number for an Indian film in the current year. Rajinikanth's "Annaatthe" is at the second position with approx ₹ 45 crores overseas. Over ₹ 150 crore-budgeted, "Sooryavanshi" is the first ₹ 200 crores grosser Bollywood film since Ajay Devgn's "Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior" in January 2020. ## Co-produced by Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty, Dharma Productions, and Cape Of Good Films, "Sooryavanshi" is the 5th highest net collection film for Akshay Kumar after Housefull 4, Mission Mangal, Good Newwz, and 2.0. Mumbai, November 16 - Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor's most-anticipated comedy-drama film, "Laal Singh Chaddha" was first announced to release on Christmas 2020 before it was postponed to the same weekend in 2021. However, due to the second covid-19 wave, the makers thought it won't be ready by the end of this year, hence they decided to postpone it again to Valentine's Day weekend 2022, and announced it with much enthusiasm. ## The latest development around this big-budgeted film is that even February 2022 release looks uncertain. According to reports, the post-production of LSC will take a lot of time and it won't be ready by the said announced date. It is said that Aamir has now decided to postpone it by 2-3 months, and will release it in mid-2022. ## "Laal Singh Chaddha's post-production will take a lot of time. There's so much work pending in its post-production and it can no way be ready for a February release. It's a film made on a big canvas and requires at least six months of post-production work. Aamir and the makers don't want to compromise on the quality of the film and hence have collectively decided to postpone it again by 2-3 months to make it as envisioned", a source close to the project informed peepingmoon.com. ## While the new release date for "Laal Singh Chaddha" is yet to be locked, the report said that the Valentine's Day weekend slot has now been booked by a leading production banner for its yet-untitled upcoming relationship drama starring a top actress. ## LSC is the official remake of Tom Hanks' 1994 Hollywood classic "Forrest Gump". It is produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Viacom18 Studios, and Paramount Pictures and co-stars Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya (Hindi debut), and Mona Singh in prominent roles.
