The poster is striking and is looking an instant blockbuster. Chennai, October 17 - Mani Ratnam's period action drama Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has become the 3rd highest-grossing Indian movie of 2022, after crossing the biggest Bollywood grosser of the year Brahmastra Part 1 - Shiva in just 17 days.## Ponniyin Selvan - 1, which is already the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, has so far grossed around 440 crores worldwide in 17 days. Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra has grossed 430 crores worldwide and is now the 4th biggest Indian movie of the year. ## The top two films are KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR with approx. 1,210 crores and 1,115 crores, respectively. PS-1 is also nearing the 200 crores mark in the home state, Tamil Nadu. Bengaluru, October 16 - Hombale Films' adventure action thriller Kantara has had the biggest day of its box office run so far on its 3rd Sunday. The movie went overdrive to clock the mammoth as the early estimates suggest 23 crores gross on its 17th day for all languages. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has already become the non-KGF highest-grossing Kannada movie at the worldwide box office and with 3rd Sunday's collection has reached about 140 crores gross, including 100 approx. 100 crores in Karnataka state. ## The Hindi version of the movie was released on October 14 after the huge demand and it performed well in the opening weekend by clocking 9.50 crores gross, including an estimated 4.70 crores on Sunday. The Telugu version was released a day later to Hindi and has grossed approx. 9.70 crores in just two days.## Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 has had another big day at the domestic box office, grossing an estimated 8.75-9 crores gross on its 3rd Sunday. The total worldwide gross collection of the movie now reached about 435 crores in 17 days. ## In Tamil Nadu, "PS-1" is nearing the untouched 200 crores mark. Bengaluru, October 16 - On the day of Prithviraj Sukumaran's 40th birthday (October 16), Hombale Films unveiled the first look poster of his character and officially announced the actor onboard Salaar, fronted by Prabhas. ## Prithviraj Sukumaran was approached for "Salaar" in early 2021, but things didn't work out as he was busy with Jordan and Algeria shoots for Blessy's pandemic-delayed epic survival thriller "Aadu Jeevitham". However, luck was with him as the "Salaar" shoot was delayed due to the covid and the makers finally managed to get his dates before he officially came on board. ## The "Ayyappanum Koshiyum" actor, however, was always interested in this Prashanth Neel's directorial and there are multiple reasons for him to say yes to this high-octane action thriller film. During an interview with Variety, the actor revealed what made to sign the movie. ## "There are multiple reasons why 'Salaar' would be a no-brainer for anybody to say yes to – it's a Prashanth Neel film, a Hombale Films production and it is Prabhas' film. It is Prabhas' return to mainstream mass commercial cinema after a while. His films post 'Saaho' have been slightly away from the mass action genre", he said.## Prabhas plays the title role in the movie, and according to Prithviraj, most part of the film revolves around Prabhas and his own character, named Vardharaja Mannaar. With this, he has also confirmed his full-fledged role, contrary to the reports of an extended cameo. ## "I deem it a privilege that somebody like Prashanth Neel, post 'K.G.F: Chapter 2' thought it was worth waiting for me to be able to join the film. And I'm glad I made that decision to finally say yes to it, because having shot for a few days, I think it might just be one of those epic cinematic experiences. Bengaluru, October 16 - After becoming a rare 100 crore grosser at the worldwide box office, the latest Kannada sensation Kantara is now behind only Yash-fronted KGF film franchise to emerge as the Non-KGF Kannada industry hit. ## The Rishab Shetty-starrer has scored approx. 115 crores so far in 16 days, making it the third highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time, after "KGF: Chapter 2", and "KGF: Chapter 1". The adventure action thriller film has overtaken Rakshit Shetty's "777 Charlie" (approx. 103 crores) to become a new non-KGF industry hit.## Interestingly, four out of the top 5 highest-grossing Kannada films of all time have released in 2022 as only KGF-1 was released in 2018. Kichcha Sudeepa's "Vikrant Rona" is the fifth biggest movie in the list with approx. 100 crores worldwide. ## Hombale Films has been churning out some critically acclaimed films that are equally successful at the box office. Los Angeles, October 15 - Marvel Studios' most-anticipated film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is getting nearer to its release date, which is November 11, 2022, in North America. ## With just 4 weeks to its official release, Marvel fans are expected to turn out in large numbers once again for the blockbuster sequel to director Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther" (2018), and the early box office prediction hints at the same. ## According to Boxoffice Pro, "Black Panther 2" is estimated to land somewhere between $180 million and $225 million at the domestic (North America) opening weekend, with high chances of it to open with $200+ million. The movie is very much on track to set a new November month record, which currently stands with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's" $158.1 million in 2013.## The original "Black Panther" movie managed to net $202 million in its opening weekend, and now, its sequel is on track to repeat those numbers. ## The superhero movie is also tracking to take one of the biggest openings for a Marvel movie. If the movie opens to its lower projection ($180M), it would put it in the top third of openings for MCU Phase 4, and in the case of its higher projection ($225M), it will be one of the biggest of all time. ## "Black Panther 2" is the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and it stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Dominique Thorne, Florence Kasumba, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett. Mumbai, October 15 - It was a blockbuster day at the domestic box office as Kannada's sensational blockbuster Kantara witnessed a massive jump, scoring the biggest day of its box office run so far. ## The Telugu and Tamil versions of the movie got released today, and as per the early estimates, the two languages grossed approx. 2.70 crores. However, it was the original Kannada version that sees a near 100% jump from yesterday, for an estimated 9.50 crores gross, followed by an estimated 3 crores gross in the Hindi version today, which was its second day. The dubbed Hindi version also scores a near 100% jump from the opening day. ## The 3rd Saturday (1st Saturday for Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil) gross collection of "Kantara" is approx. 15 crores, which pushes its total domestic gross collection to over 100 crores to approx. 107 crores in 16 days. The worldwide collection of the movie is around 115 crores. ## Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam's mega-blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 continues to score big as it grossed an estimated 7-7.50 crores gross (+80% vs 3rd Friday) on its 3rd Saturday for all languages. ## The total domestic gross collection of "PS-1" is now around 280 crores while the worldwide total is approx. 425 crores. In the home state, Tamil Nadu, the movie is expected to breach the 200 crores mark by the end of the 3rd week. The current gross total in the state stands at approx. 186 crores after 16 days.## On the other hand, there are some relief for mid-sized Bollywood movies as Ayushmann Khurrana's social comedy-drama Doctor G witnesses a healthy jump on its second day. The movie surprisingly has had a decent opening day with 3.87 crores net, with a jump of approx. 30%, the movie scored an estimated 5 crores net on Saturday.
