Malayalam Director In Talks To Direct Sony Pictures' 'Shaktimaan' Trilogy

Mumbai, October 20 - It has been nearly 8 months since Sony Pictures India in association with Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International, and Brewing Thoughts Private Limited announced big screen adaptation of the popular television superhero show Shaktimaan. ## Ever since the announcement, the makers have been searching for a director to helm this trilogy, and it seems they have finally found the one. According to Pinkvilla, Malayalam director Basil Joseph, who directed the critically acclaimed desi superhero movie "Minnal Murali", is in the advance talks to helm "Shaktimaan" trilogy. ## The report says that Basil is himself a huge Shaktimaan fan and has shown keen interest in directing this film. ## "The director has already met the Shaktimaan team multiple times and is keen to come on board the film. The producers have asked Basil to come up with his own version of the screenplay to know if he is on the same wavelength as the team on the visual and story-telling front", Pinkvilla reports.## The "Shaktimaan" trilogy will be made on a huge budget and the makers are looking for the best artists to come on board the film. The makers are believed to be in talks with several directors and Basil is the front-runner to be at the helm of affairs, as all the meetings have met with a positive response.## Meanwhile, the makers are yet to lock in the lead actor to play this iconic role which made the childhood of the 90s kids awesome. Bengaluru, October 20 - Actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty's adventure action thriller film Kantara is holding phenomenally well over the weekdays at the domestic box office. ## Produced by Hombale Films, "Kantara" is on course to enter Rs. 200 crores club at the worldwide box office. At the time of its release, even Rs. 100 crores was looking like a far cry but such has been the response to the movie from audiences across the country, Rs. 200 crores now looks well within reach. ## The movie has grossed approx. 170 crores worldwide in 20 days and by the end of its week, it is expected to reach about 175 crores. With the Diwali holidays upfront, "Kantara" should reach the milestone despite the fact that there are many films releasing this weekend across languages. ## "Kantara" has grossed approx. 120 crores in the original Kannada version, followed by Telugu with approx. 18 crores (5 days), and Hindi with approx. 15 crores (6 days). The reboot of the 1979 cult classic "Maula Jatt" has been the most talked about Pakistani film and it didn't disappoint. ## Directed by Bilal Lashari, the action fantasy grossed PRK 51 crores ($2.3M) globally in the opening weekend from 25 markets and over 500 screens, setting a new record for the Pakistani film. In Pakistan's domestic market, the movie took an opening of $517K. ## The movie opened at a number in many locations, and in the UK, the movie scored the highest opening weekend for any Pakistani or Punjabi film with $355K from 79 locations.
