Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi' Sequel Greenlit To Begin Production In 2023: Report

Los Angeles, October 29 - Marvel Studios' recently released new superhero film, "Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings" has been one of the biggest stories so far in Hollywood. The Simu Liu starrer not only became the biggest domestic blockbuster of 2021 but also opened the doors for its preceder in the coming future.## There were reports that the sequel of "Shang-Chi" is in the works at the Marvel Studios, and now, according to GWW, the sequel has been greenlit and is reportedly set to begin production in 2023. It is said that Marvel is keen on expanding the world of Shang-Chi, especially with the rumored Ten Rings spin-off in the works. ## Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, "Shang-Chi" has ruled the domestic box office since its debut on September 3. With approx $220 million at the North American box office, "Shang-Chi" is the first Hollywood film so far to reach $200 million during the covid-19 pandemic. Worldwide, it is the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2021 with a gross collection of over $420 million. ## The movie stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung. Los Angeles, October 29 - One of the leading social media platforms, Facebook has been renamed as "Meta", the company revealed its new name, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg making an official announcement in an effort to encompass its virtual-reality vision for the future, called "metaverse". ## The announcement comes amid an existential crisis for Facebook. It faces legislative and regulatory scrutiny in many parts of the world following revelations in the Facebook Papers. Zuckerberg made the announcement at Connect, the company’s annual hardware event.## "From now on, we're going to be the metaverse first. Not Facebook first", Zuckerberg said in his keynote. The company called the metaverse, "a place where we'll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection". Mumbai, October 28 - Amazon Prime Video is going to be the home of the upcoming films of Yash Raj Films production. Prime Video has exclusively signed a deal with YRF for 4 most anticipated upcoming films that include Bunty Aur Babli 2, Prithviraj, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Shamshera for their streaming after 4 weeks of theatrical release. ## While the aforementioned films have been made official, Amazon has reportedly grabbed two more YRF films. According to reports, YRF's in-production big-budget films - Salman Khan starrer "Tiger 3" and Shah Rukh Khan's comeback film "Pathan" will be available to stream on Prime Video after 8-weeks of theatrical release. ## Reports claim that Amazon has paid a whopping Rs. 200 crores to beg the streaming rights of Tiger 3 and Pathan, which are one of the most-awaited Indian films. Both the films are currently on floors and in their final legs of shooting schedules. ## The third installment of the Tiger film franchise, Tiger 3, will see Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif reprising their roles as RAW and ISI agents respectively. The spy actioner will also feature Emraan Hashmi as the antagonist, however, the official announcement regarding his inclusion is yet to be made. The movie is being directed by Maneesh Sharma. ## Pathan, on the other hand, marks Shah Rukh Khan's return on the big screen after almost three years. SRK has been shooting since the last year on this action thriller which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in prominent roles. Salman reportedly plays a cameo in this Siddharth Anand's directorial. ## Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films hasn't set release dates for these two films. Yash Raj Films Inks 4 Films Deal With Amazon Prime Video For Post Theatrical Streaming

Mumbai, October 28 - The leading Hindi film production studio, Yash Raj Films has locked the streaming partner for its 4 upcoming films. The studio, which will release Bunty Aur Babli 2 (Nov. 19), Prithviraj (Jan. 21, 2022), Jayeshbhai Jordaar (Feb. 25, 2022), and Shamshera (Mar. 18, 2022) in the next five months, has inked a deal with Amazon Prime Video for the post-theatrical premiere. ## According to the deal, Amazon Prime Video will have the rights to stream the aforementioned films on its platform 4 weeks after their theatrical release. Amazon has been the first choice destination for Indian films in the last one and a half years. Prime Video's new deal with YRF is for exclusive global streaming rights for the four most anticipated films. ## "At Prime Video, we are intently focused on bringing the biggest and the best entertainment to our customers and this partnership with Yash Raj Films is the perfect demonstration of that commitment", said Gaurav Gandhi, country head, Prime Video India. ## "Over the last four years, we have been consistently bringing blockbuster movies to entertain audiences from the comfort of their homes and on a screen of their choice. Speaking to Inverse about the sequel, the filmmaker teases the potential return of Army of Thieves lead Dieter.## "But the real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don't see him die on camera, and there's still some time left. I won't tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let's just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. Schweighöfer also stars in the lead as Ludwig Dieter. ## Army of Thieves is set six years before the events of the Army of the Dead, during the beginning stages of the zombie outbreak, Ludwig Dieter is in his early days of safecracking. He is hired by a mysterious woman to pull off a heist with the help of a misfit crew of aspiring thieves.## Snyder, on the other hand, is currently working on a sci-fi film titled "Rebel Moon" for Netflix. It focuses on a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by war from the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius, and the only hope for the colonies is a young woman with a mysterious past who is sent out to recruit warriors from neighboring planets to defend the colony. Los Angeles, October 28 - Marvel Studios' next superhero offering, "Eternals" has its world premiere last week at the iconic El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday (October 18). The early reactions to the film indicate it is the most un-like Marvel picture ever. ## The critics reviewed the film with most agreeing that this is a massive swing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe while some think it should have been a two-part offering as they feel it might lose the audience in the process of trying to explain a ton of what's really up with the backstory of these films. ## The different opinions on Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao's first Marvel film, have come out heavily against it as it has been rated lowest amongst all the Marvel films on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently fresh with 64% from 92 critics reviews, it is two points lower than Chris Hemsworth's second outing as Thor - Thor: The Dark World.## However, the Rotten Tomatoes score should not be considered as the final outcome of a film's success. There have been many films in the past that had the lowest ratings but did amazingly well at the box office. Despite his busy schedule, the megastar met his fan personally and came to know about his health condition. Touched by his story, Chiranjeevi promised him to help financially. ## The megastar also saw the medical reports of Venkat and advised him to seek a second opinion from a private hospital in Hyderabad. He had referred Venkat to the hospital personally, after which he even asked his team to update him on the case. Chiranjeevi also helped Venkat by giving him Rs 2 lakh for his immediate expenses.## "I am blessed to be called his fan. Lucknow, October 27 - Uttar Pradesh is set to get its first-ever drive-in theatre on Diwali. With a capacity of 200 cars, the drive-in theatre in Lucknow's Sarojini Nagar area is expected to draw a big crowd on Diwali. People can watch movies from the comfort of their cars while enjoying food and other amenities.## Lucknow-based commercial pilot and businessman, Nitish Kanda, who started the venture, said, "This will be a new experience not just for the city but for the entire state as this is the first drive-in theatre in Uttar Pradesh. We have installed a digital LED screen with 40 by 20 ft dimensions which also works well in sunlight. For the time being, we will have evening and night shows".## The district administration and the municipal corporation have granted permission for the facility and tickets will be available both online and offline.## "The digital LED screen promises better picture quality over a projector. It also gives a 180-degree equal view from all angles. The sound system will also be tuned to the frequency of the car's FM and audio will be played inside the vehicle, limiting all noise pollution", he added.## The concept is expected to receive much traction during Covid times since the drive-in theatre will help maintain physical distancing with cars in place of other forms of seating arrangements.## Stay tuned...

It surpassed fellow Chinese film "Hi, Mom" ($848 million or 5.41 billion yuan) to reach the top spot with $883 million or 5.64 billion yuan at the Chinese box office. ## "The Battle at Lake Changjin" also becomes the second highest-grossing Chinses film and also the 2nd highest-grossing non-English film of all time after "Wolf Warrior 2" (2017), which grossed 5.69 billion yuan. Released on September 30, the box office monster is inching towards becoming the top-grossing non-English film ever.## Among the top 5 highest-grossing films of 2021, 3 films are Chinese while two are Hollywood films. "Hi, Mom" is at number 2 with $848 million followed by "Fast & Furious 9" (F9) at 3 with $716 million, "Detective Chinatown 3" with $686 million, and James Bond "No Time To Die" with $526 million. ## "The Battle at Lake Changjin" is reportedly China's most expensive film ever made with a production budget of approx $200 million. Los Angeles, October 27 - Even though the Marvel movies have been helmed some of the finest Hollywood directors, Joe and Anthony Russo aka Russo Brothers are probably the most successful of them. The director duo has directed fours Marvel movies such as Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which not only became popular but also were commercially successful. ## Despite being so successful with Marvel, the Russo Brothers haven't worked on any other Marvel project since Endgame. However, in the new book "The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe", it's noted the Russos "softly retired" from the MCU after Endgame largely to make films under their own banner (AGBO). ## However, the book further adds that "there's an expectation that someday they'll work with Marvel Studios again". Stating the reason for their possible MCU comeback, Joe Russo says the Kevin Feige-led outfit is made up of the best collaborators they've had in Hollywood.## "We laugh a lot, and that's really important. We all have a very similar sense of humor, and we spent a lot of time making jokes with each other and enjoying each other's company during very long, difficult hours, whether in the story room, on set, or in the editing room. Everyone's very supportive and encouraging of one another", Joe added. ## "You can't undertake something as significant as the two most expensive movies ever made, back-to-back, without that kind of environment. You just wouldn't survive. There's no other way through it than with warmth and laughter", he said. ## Anthony Russo adds another reason the brothers love the studio is because of its commitment to the comic book source material. "It starts with their very specific passion for the material," he says. "That's a big part of it.
