Twitter Talk: Ayushmann Khurrana's 'Doctor G' Gets Thumbs Up Against Parineeti Chopra's 'Code Name: Tiranga'

Mumbai, October 14 - Ayushmann Khurrana's campus comedy-drama film Doctor G has been released in theaters today along with Parineeti Chopra and Harrdy Sandhu's spy action thriller Code Name: Tiranga and a few other films. ## Going by the initial reaction from the movie-goers and critics, it seems "Doctor G" will be the first choice of the audience over the weekend along with the Kannada movie Kantara, of which the Hindi version has been released today after creating waves in Kannada. ## Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap in her directorial debut, "Doctor G" is being called hilarious while dealing with a complicated subject where Ayushmann plays a gynecologist. Social comedy-drama has always been Ayushmann's strong zone and it looks like he is back in that after a couple of missed opportunities. ## Apart from Ayushmann, the performances of Rakul Preet Sigh, Shefali Shah, and Sheeba Chaddha are getting big recognition. The direction of the movie is also being praised. The only debatable point of the movie, as per the critics' talks, is the second half where the plot of the movie gets off-track, but overall, the film is getting a very good reception. ## "Code Name: Tiranga", directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, is a spy action thriller but the initial response is average to the movie. The movie had created a decent buzz through teaser/trailer, but the critics are calling it a failed attampt in this genre. The performence Parineeti Chopra along with other actors is praiseworthy but the direction by Ribhu Dasgupta is being criticised. The movie is being called a low to average affair, which might make it tough for it going forward. ## On other other hand, "Kantara" Hindi has recieved super positive reviews from critics and it will give a tough fight to "Doctor G", and other movies. Mumbai, August 29 - Alia Bhatt-fronted dark comedy Darlings continues to score big on Netflix and now, it has become the most-watched Indian original Netflix film of all time, according to the streamer. ## Directed by Jasmeet K. Reen in her debut, "Darlings" was released on August 5 and since then it has been trending in the top 10. According to Netflix, the movie has been watched for 30 million hours, which is a record for an Indian original Netflix film. ## Netflix also revealed that "Darlings" trended in the top 10 in 28 countries in the first three weeks. Alia Bhatt's 'Darlings' Scores 10.21 Million Viewing Hours In The Opening Weekend

Mumbai, August 10 - Actress Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi was a massive hit on Netflix despite being a non-direct OTT release. It scored approx. 55 million viewing hours, becoming one of the most-watched Indian films on the streamer. ## With the solid backing of Gangubai Kathiawadi, the actress and producer's dark comedy Darlings opted for a direct digital release via Netflix, however, it failed to create the same magic as GB this time around. The Jasmeet K Reen-directed film scored 10.21 million viewing hours in the first three days and landed at number 4 among the most-watched non-English films worldwide during the week of August 1 - August 7.## Interestingly, Gangubai Kathiawadi, which was a non-direct Netflix release, had scored 13.8 million viewing hours in the first three days on the streamer and landed at number 1 in the first weekend worldwide. Human Review: Twisted And Disturbing With Ace production Values

But at its core, it also shows us the degradation of the human race.## Shot on a lavish scale with ace production values, brilliant camera work, and adrenaline-pumping background score, the series begins with a scene where we are shown dead guinea pigs surreptitiously discarded into a water body and later a victim of a clinical drug trial suffering. Then we are transported to Manthan, a multi-specialty hospital run by the ace neurosurgeon Dr. Gauri Nath, which is the center of this narrative.## Running parallel to the events at Manthan is the subplot of Mangu, who works in the local civic morgue and is the ambitious son of a rickshaw driver. In his endeavor to make some extra money, he is lured to recruit people for clinical drug trials. He enrolls his parents in the scheme, and soon his mother who suffers from comorbidities is affected by the after-effects of the drugs and is in a serious condition.## His path crosses with Dr. Saira Sabharwal, the efficient and capable cardiac surgeon, a new entrant at Manthan who is also the apple of Dr. Gauri Nath's eye.## When Dr. Saira realizes that something is amiss with the drug trials conducted in the hospital and tries to bring it to Dr. Gauri's attention, she stumbles upon things much sinister and beyond her comprehension.## What makes this series appealing is its well-etched but flawed characters, some with more than skewed emotional issues plaguing them. Also, the plot dives deep into the complex web of emotions and thoughts of the key characters where lies and deception are a part of their daily living.## The chatter between the characters does not take away from the show the visible effort and meticulousness put into crafting each shot which appears candid and natural. The series is skilfully written, astutely mounted, and incredibly well-acted.## Shefali Shah is a brilliant performer, and as Dr. Gauri Nath, she is an enigma that unravels effortlessly. Ram Kapoor as Gauri's cuckold husband Pratap Munjal, is perfunctory and unimpressive. Seema Biswas in an underwritten, complex and convoluted role, as the cold and devious matron 'Roma Maa' is natural and menacing. Her ominous presence onscreen is unsettling.## Kriti Kulhari is simply understated, graceful, and effortless as the efficient Dr. Saira Sabharwal but a masterful liar and manipulator in her personal life who finds herself in a world that she can't control completely, and yet she has a conscience.## Indraneil Sengupta as Dr. Saira's husband Neil, Atul Kumar Mittal as Dr. Snehal Shinde, Gaurav Dwivedi as Dr. Vivek Shekhawat, Shruti Bapna as Dr. Shekhawat's wife Sucheta in minuscule roles leave their mark on the screen. Mohan Agashe as Mohan Vaidya, the founder of the pharma company, is wasted in a minor role.## On a different level, it is Vishal Jethwa as Mangu who steals the show. He enthralls the audience with his stained teeth and intense facial expressions. He is aptly supported by Pranali Ghogare as his sister Meena, Sushil Pandey as his father, and the rest of the supporting cast, who seemed to be playing an extension of themselves.## Overall, the series is fairly compelling.## Stay tuned...
