Oppenheimer, Barbie, and Mission Impossible 7 Rock Indian Box Office With $11.5 Million Weekend

Mumbai, July 24 - The Rise of Hollywood films in India has been exceptional over the last few years where English films are consistently performing well at the box office. In the first half of 2023, there have been at least, 3 films (outside Marvel and DC) which have emerged as big hits, and now, things went a notch higher in the first month of the second half, July.## In July, three of the biggest Hollywood films of the year were released in the form of "Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One", "Oppenheimer", and "Barbie" and all three have emerged as super successes. It began with Tom Cruise's "MI7" which is nearing 100 crores net (already crossed 100 crores gross), and the momentum continued with "Barbenheimer" mania, which literally has set the box office on fire. This past weekend (July 21-23), "Oppenheimer", "Barbie" and "MI7" scored an estimated $11.5 million (95 crores) in what is one of the biggest all-time single weekends for Hollywood movies in India. ## Oppenheimer - Maverick director Christopher Nolan's atom bomb movie has had an excellent opening weekend and is the biggest for the filmmaker in India. After taking the biggest Hollywood opening of 17.50 crores ($2.1M) of the year here, "Oppenheimer" concluded the 3-day weekend on high with 58 crores gross ($7 million), and it will become the biggest film of Nolan in India by the end of its 4th day. India was the second-biggest international market for the film that otherwise was second to "Barbie" in almost all the markets.## Barbie - The Margot Robbie-led fantasy comedy movie got the benefit of the Barbenheimer phenomena in India at least and smiled with a $2.7 million (22 crores) 3-day opening weekend. The movie has had a limited release in only the English version and has done very well at the box office. The Warner Bros. Pictures' film is set to emerge as a clean hit in India. ## Mission Impossible 7 - The Tom Cruise-starrer got impacted by "Oppenheimer" on the second weekend but still did well to score $1.7 million (14 crores) in its second Friday to Sunday weekend. The movie's total collection after 12 days is approx. 110 crores ($13.4M), making it the highest-grossing film as well as the first 100 crores grosser film of Cruise in India. ## Stay tuned...

The glimpse met with a highly positive response nationwide as fans can't stop raving about it. ## Directed by Siva, "Kanguva" is a period action drama film and the first look glimpse gave audiences a sneak peek into the world of a fearless warrior and a king, called Kanguva. The glimpse was launched at midnight, yet it received a blockbuster response on YouTube and other social media platforms. ## The glimpse of Kanguva garnered 21.80 million views in the first 24 hours on the Saregama Tamil YouTube channel which is believed to be one of the all-time highest-viewership for a Tamil movie. The Glimpse is available to watch in 6 languages, including original Tamil along with Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and English. ## "Kanguva" is produced by K.E. Gnanavelraja of Studio Green in association with UV Creation. It stars Suriya in the title role while Disha Patani plays the female lead, making her debut in Tamil cinema. New Delhi, July 23 - Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa's comedy entertainer, "Carry on Jatta 3" has created history and become the first-ever Punjabi-language movie to crores at 100 crores gross at the worldwide box office. ## Smeep Kang's directorial movie reached the 100 crores box office milestone on its 25th day. In India, the film has scored over 54 crores gross so far, the highest of all time for a Punjabi movie, while the overseas collection is a staggering 46 crores (estimated) for 100+ crores worldwide gross. ## "Carry on Jatta 3" has now a lead of over 40 crores from its predecessor which is also the second highest-grossing Indian Punjabi movie of all-time with approx. 58 crores worldwide gross. Meanwhile, COJ3 has also crossed the Pakistani film "The Legend of Maula Jatt" to become the first 100 crores (in INR) and the highest-grossing Punjabi language movie ever. ## Meanwhile, COJ3 is now also the highest-grossing film ever in Punjab state with a gross collection of over 28 crores. It is the biggest opening for Christopher Nolan's original movie, beating "Inception's" $62.8M, and the biggest R-Rated opening post the covid-19 pandemic. ## Overseas, the Cillian Murphy-starrer grossed a mighty $98 million 5-day weekend over 78 markets, helping $180.40 million global opening for the film, the biggest for Nolan, excluding the Dark Knight trilogy and the biggest R-Rated post the covid-19 pandemic. ## The top 10 markets of "Oppenheimer are as follows - North America ($82.40M), the UK ($14M), India ($7.1M), France ($7M), Germany ($6.6M), Australia ($6.4M), Mexico ($4.6M), Saudi Arabia ($4M), and Spain($3.8M). ## The combined global gross box office collection of "Barbenheimer" is $536.70 million, which is simply phenomenal.## Stay tuned...

The movie stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the leading roles alongside Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi in key roles. ## According to Bollywood Hungama, RRKPK has been made in a budget of 160 crores while the additional cost is around 18 crores, making it 178 crores budgeted movie. Meanwhile, the makers have already recovered 90% through the non-theatrical rights so it will easily turn out to be a big profitable venture. ## It is said that the makers have sold the post-theatrical streaming rights to Amazon Prime Video for a whopping 80 crores while satellite rights sold to Colors for 50 crores, and another Rs. 30 crores coming from the sale of its music rights to Saregama. Now, according to a report in Mid-Day, Bazmee has locked a quirky and catchy title, keeping with the light-hearted flavor of the story. ## The report reveals that the maiden collaboration between Shahid and Bazmee has been titled "Ek Saath Do Do". The title is said to be in sync with Shahid's double role. ## "Anees has locked Ek Saath Do Do as the title to harp on the actor's double role. The name can even be read as 1.7.22. The date is of significance in the narrative, and ties in neatly with the protagonist and his twin's journey", a source from the creative team revealed to Mid-Day.## The shoot of "Ek Sath Do Do" will commence at a specially designed set of a Rajasthani haveli in a Mumbai studio. "A chunk of the film is set in a Rajasthani village. After the monsoon, the team will head to the desert state for an extensive schedule. Rashmika will join the unit after the second schedule", the report further says.## Shahid Kapoor, meanwhile, will next be seen in producer Dinesh Vijan's untitled rom-com, co-starring Kriti Sanon as the female lead. Mumbai, July 22 - Christopher Nolan's atom bomb movie "Oppenheimer" has an explosive first Saturday, after a very good opening day of 14.50 crores net collection at the Indian box office. ## The movie is having strong collection across the country and with a jump of around 15-20%, it scored an estimated 17-17.50 crores net (~20.50 crores gross) on its second day. The total collection through the first Saturday reaches around 32 crores net (~38 crores gross).## The brand value of Christopher Nolan is driving massive biz. It is mainly in the original English format as the Hindi version contributed just 15% to the opening day collection. The same trend is also being witnessed on its second day as well where the English version is ruling the overall biz. ## The fellow Hollywood movie, "Barbie" also witnessed a good jump today after a good opening day of 5 crores net. With an increase of around 25%, "Barbie" scored an estimated 6.50 crores net collection today, which takes the two days total to around 11.50 crores net. ## "Barbie" has done well in the first days against a solid competitor in Nolan as well as the holdover movies. It could have easily scored a few more had there been no "Oppenheimer" up against it. The word of mouth for both movies is solid and a combined weekend total is looking to be around 70 crores net (83 crores gross). ## Meanwhile, Tom Cruise is not going anywhere as his latest blockbuster "Mission Impossible 7" scored a solid estimated 4.50 crores net (+80%) on its second Saturday at the Indian box office.
