Mumbai, April 6 - Yash Raj Films' ambitious Spy Universe peaked after the all-time blockbuster success of Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, and Deepika Padukone's Pathaan. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film proved to be the biggest blockbuster for YRF and also marked the official launch of its Spy Universe. ## The next film, Tiger 3 starring Salman Khan, Emraan Hashmi, and Katrina Kaif will further see crossovers between multiple characters of Spy Universe films. Tiger 3 is scheduled to release on Diwali 2023, and after that, YRF has lined up two more films and those will be the Pan India tentpoles in the truest sense. ## Hrithik Roshan will return as Major Kabir Dhaliwal, and he will be locking horns with Telugu superstar Jr. NTR in War 2 which will be directed by Brahmastra-fame Ayan Mukerji. Mumbai, April 5 - IMAX recorded record-breaking results at the box office in the first quarter of 2023 as the company announced on April 4 that its first quarter box office earning was $282.2 million, beating its previous best set in 2016 by more than $10 million. ## The record-breaking results were powered by a potent global mix of releases; the first quarter now stands as IMAX's highest-grossing quarter ever for local language releases and also saw the stunning performance of James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water".## As far as Indian films are concerned, IMAX announced that Shah Rukh Khan-fronted mega-blockbuster "Pathaan" delivered IMAX's biggest global opening weekend of all time for an Indian film. The company didn't reveal the box office collection for a particular local movie but revealed that local language films recorded $86.3 million and "Pathaan" was one of the biggest contributors to that. ## "The first quarter is an excellent indicator of the promise we see in 2023 — a year in which we expect to return to our record-breaking levels of box office from 2019", said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "Our best-ever box office for the quarter demonstrates that IMAX is wholly unique in its ability to capitalize on both Hollywood and local language box office, and our diversifying content portfolio remains a key, successful pillar of our global growth strategy".## Released in December 2022, James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" was the highest-grossing IMAX release of the quarter and has now generated $255 million in IMAX — the Company's highest-grossing first-run release of all time. ## As for the local language release, China Film Group's "The Wandering Earth 2", now stands as IMAX's highest-grossing film of all time. Akshay Kumar To Reunite With Director AR Murugadoss For A Special Film

Mumbai, April 5 - Tamil director AR Murugadoss has been missing from the action since Rajinikanth's "Darbar" (2020) which underperformed at the box office. He is, however, currently busy with the promotion of his production venture, August 16, 1947, which is set to be released on April 7. ## Apart from August 16, 1947, the filmmaker has not decided on his next directorial but during a recent interview with Galatta Plus, he revealed what he has been up to in the past two years during the covid-19 pandemic. ## The "Kaththi" director revealed that he is working on a film with animals and a bunch of kids as the lead characters. He had written the script for the fantasy film even before his debut venture Dheena (2001) but due to restrictions on shooting with animals, the movie was put on hold before he finally debuted with Dheena and there was no looking back since. ## The director calls it his dream project which is finally decided to revive during the covid-19 pandemic. The film will have a powerful extended 20-minute cameo and Murugadoss revealed that he narrated the same to Akshay Kumar who liked the idea and agreed to do it. ## Murugadoss decided to make the film with CGI and visual effects and for the same, he connected with an Oscar-winning company called Double Negative, which has worked in Avengers. The director narrated the story to them and they were super happy. They also started the pre-production over Zoom calls, however, a series of flops in Bollywood again put the movie on hold. ## There is no timeline fixed yet for the movie but Murugadoss said that he will definitely do it one day since it is his dream project. Mumbai, April 4 - Yash Raj Films is building its Spy Universe featuring some of the biggest stars of Bollywood. It all started with Salman Khan-fronted Ek Tha Tiger (2012) before he reprised his role in the sequel Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Both movies were huge blockbusters which fueled YRF to take the franchise to another level. ## In 2019, the studio released the third film in the Spy Universe, War-fronted by Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. It continued the blockbuster run before Shah Rukh Khan-fronted Pathaan (2023) took the Spy Universe to next level and turned out to be the biggest blockbuster. ## Pathaan was the first film in this blockbuster series in which characters from previous films were introduced. While there was a reference to Hrithik's Kabir in the film, Salman Khan played a vital cameo as Tiger. The third installment of Tiger is already in the making and is scheduled to release on Diwali 2023. ## Directed by Maneesh Sharma, Tiger 3 will have SRK's cameo as Pathaan, and the events of this film will set up the stage for Hrithik Roshan's War 2 which will be the next film in the Spy Universe, YRF has confirmed (via Taran Adarsh). It will be directed by Ayan Mukerji and this will be his first directorial in the Spy Universe.## War 2 will likely have Salman and SRK's cameos as Tiger and Pathaan. It will start filming later this year and be released in 2024. After War 2, YRF will start the biggest movie of the Spy Universe and possibly the biggest in Indian cinema, Tiger Vs Pathaan which might be the swan song of one of the actors in the Spy series. ## There is no director named yet for this mega movie which will pitch Salman's Tiger and SRK's Pathaan against each other. Movie is projected to take a $225 million - $245 million global opening over a 5-day weekend, according to Deadline. Even if it opens to the lower level of the projection, it stands a chance to beat Disney/Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" which opened to $225.3 million in February. ## The $225+ million worldwide opening of The Super Mario movie includes a giant $125 million - $135 million projection (5 days) at the domestic (North America) box office and $100 million - $110 million over 69 international markets (5 days). ## The Super Mario Bros. Movie is comfortably looking to take the biggest opening ever at the domestic box office for a video game feature adaptation. Chennai, April 4 - Thalapathy Vijay's gangster action drama Leo with director Lokesh Kanagaraj has turned blockbuster even before the release. The makers have reportedly sold the theatrical and non-theatrical rights in never heard before prices in Tamil cinema. ## It was previously reported that the non-theatrical rights of the movie have been sold in approx. 240 crores, including digital rights to Netflix for approx. 120 crores in all languages. Thalapathy Vijay's box office market, especially overseas has witnessed a sharp rise over the last few years. ## Considering the huge anticipation for the movie and the blockbuster combo of Thalapathy and Lokesh among the audiences, the makers were reportedly demanding a huge price for the film's overseas rights. It is said that the asking price was close to 70 crores, and as per the latest reports, the overseas deal has been locked. ## According to trade reports, Phars Films which has distributed some of the biggest Indian blockbusters has grabbed overseas theatrical rights. While the makers were demanding approx. 70 crores, reports say that the deal has been locked for approx. 60 crores, which is an all-time record for a Tamil tentpole. ## The total pre-release business of Leo is around 410 crores, including worldwide theatrical rights of approx. 175 crores. These are the numbers confirmed by trusted industry sources to multiple leading media outlets. ## Leo is produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar, under Seven Screen Studio, and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy.
