Mumbai, August 10 - The much-awaited family comedy-drama film, Raksha Bandhan, starring Akshay Kumar, is finally hitting theaters worldwide tomorrow (August 11). Directed by Anand L Rai, Raksha Bandhan is touted to revive the family drama genre, which used to be the strongest zone of the Bollywood industry. ## The movie revolves around Lala Kedarnath (Akshay), who runs a street food shop, the third generation of his family to do so. He plays a role of a brother whose primary concern is getting his four sisters married, and at the same time, dealing with the problem of dowry. Opening Day Box Office Prediction For Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha' and Akshay Kumar-Fronted 'Raksha Bandhan'

Mumbai, August 10 - There is a lot depending on the upcoming two Bollywood biggies - Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan, as far as the box office is concerned. It would have been nice if they have got a solo release, but that is not happening as both the movies are releasing on August 11. ## Laal Singh Chaddha, which stars superstar Aamir Khan in the title role, is the biggest movie this month and the industry is expecting it to perform according to the reputation it is carrying. However, the advance booking trend is saying something else which might have forced the industry to lower their expectations, at least for the opening day. ## It would have been a huge surprise to see an Aamir Khan's film not able to pick in advance sales. However, things have changed post-pandemic as the trend of box office openings post-pandemic has largely been on the lower side. Irrespective of the star power, Bollywood films haven't been able to take the big opening except for Akshay Kumar's, Sooryavanshi, which opened to over 26 crores on Diwali 2021. ## Laal Singh Chaddha, which has so far grossed approx. 3.50 crores in advance sales, is looking to open around 12-13 crores. The movie will depend on word of mouth, and we are expecting it to be positive which might push the film to around 15 crores net start. The 15 crores opening is not at all good by the standard Aamir has set, but the industry should take it in a positive way as it is having a clash with another big film, that too under current circumstances. ## On the other hand, Akshay Kumar-fronted, Raksha Bandhan is not really dependent upon the advance booking trend and will largely rely on spot bookings. The makers have promised the revive the family drama genre with this Anand L Rai-directorial and the inside reports are also super positive. ## Raksha Bandhan, which is having a perfect Holiday release, matching the vibes of the Raksha Bandhan festival, is very much on track to open around Akshay Kumar's last film, Samrat Prithviraj. Going by the advance booking, the 8-9 crores opening is a sure shot, but we are expecting it to have a better spot booking, which, hopefully, will help the film to open around 10-11 crores net. ## The best thing for both the movies is that they have a long holiday weekend ahead. So, if the critics' reviews and word of mouth is positive, both LSC and RB have all the potential to grow over the weekend, which is likely to happen. In combination, the Bollywood industry can expect 23-25 crores against its overestimated 30 crores net. ## Stay tuned...

Los Angeles, August 10 - 20th Century Studios' new film in the Predator franchise, Prey debuted directly on Disney's Hulu platform in the United States on August 5. Being a film of the blockbuster franchise, many wondered why 20th Century and Disney didn't open the movie in cinemas exclusively. ## While there is no reason given by the studio, the movie has taken the streaming platform, Hulu by storm. On Tuesday, Disney revealed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the film scored the No. 1 premiere on Hulu to date, including all film and TV series debuts. ## Additionally, the pic was the most watched film premiere on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories, based on hours watched in the first three days of its release, however, Disney did not reveal the viewing hours. ## The development of the film, Prey, began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. The movie was always in production for direct streaming release. ## THR report says that Disney believes that sending the movie straight to Hulu — which, like other streamers, is competing to become a destination for original content — was a smart decision, and it's impossible to say whether Prey would have benefited from a theatrical release. It scored approx. 55 million viewing hours, becoming one of the most-watched Indian films on the streamer. ## With the solid backing of Gangubai Kathiawadi, the actress and producer's dark comedy Darlings opted for a direct digital release via Netflix, however, it failed to create the same magic as GB this time around. The Jasmeet K Reen-directed film scored 10.21 million viewing hours in the first three days and landed at number 4 among the most-watched non-English films worldwide during the week of August 1 - August 7.## Interestingly, Gangubai Kathiawadi, which was a non-direct Netflix release, had scored 13.8 million viewing hours in the first three days on the streamer and landed at number 1 in the first weekend worldwide. Darlings is unlikely to match Gangubai's viewing numbers as the reviews are mixed as compared to the super positive response to Gangubai. ## Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions, Darlings has been trending in the top 10 in 16 countries, including at number 1 in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and UAE. During an interview with Galatta, the superstar spoke about what the Indian film industry needs to do to save cinema. It is a well-known fact that Aamir is a huge ambassador of big screens cinema and his upcoming movie is also designed for the big screen only. ## During the covid-19 pandemic, many films opted for a short theatrical window which has largely backfired. Aamir said that the industry must understand that to save cinema, there must be a bigger gap between theatrical release and OTT premiere. ## The actor went on to say that the industry is not putting effort to bring the audiences to the theaters by keeping a short theatrical window. Box Office: Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's 'Bimbisara' Achieves Break-Even Target In Just 3 Days

Hyderabad, August 8 - The most productive Indian film industry post-pandemic, Tollywood is showing the way again with the latest flicks - Bimbisara and Sita Ramam. The Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's, Bimbisara, is particularly on a marry me run at the box office and achieved something that wasn't achieved before this year. ## Directed by Mallidi Vasishta, Bimbisara opened in the theaters this past weekend amid much anticipation, and in just three days, it has recovered its total domestic investment, which is the fastest for a Telugu movie this year. ## The time travel fantasy actioner took to a super solid start at the box office and held very well over the weekend for 15.84 crores share collection in Telugu states (AP/TG). The movie was valued at approx. 13 crores, which has now become a thing of the past. ## Bimbisara is the first Telugu hit in over 2 months and is very much on track to become a huge blockbuster. It was promised to be a theater-worthy title and it has lived up to that promise and provided a seeti-maar big screen experience. The worldwide share collection of the film is approx. 18.30 crores (career best for Kalyan Ram), against its break-even 16.20 crores. It has become a worldwide hit. ## Produced by N. T. R. Arts, the movie also stars Catherine Tresa, Samyuktha Menon, and Prakash Raj in key roles.
