Box Office: RRR Creates All-Time Highest Worldwide Opening Day Record For An Indian Movie

Hyderabad, March 26 - When Prabhas-fronted "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion" was released in 2017, it became the first Indian movie to score over 100 crores gross for all languages. 2 years later, another Prabhas movie in the form of "Saaho" did the same but couldn't break "Baahubali 2" record.## And now, after almost 5 years, director SS Rajamouli's "RRR" has breached the fortress of his own directorial "Baahubali 2", and become the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time at the domestic as well overseas box office on the first day. ## The period action drama film netted 130 crores* in India on Friday, breaking "Baahubali 2's" record of 121 crores. In Telugu, the film earned 101.2 crores net, again becoming the biggest movie in the languages on its opening day. Baahubali 2 had generated 58 crores in Telugu on day 1 while "Saaho" made 60.40 crores. ## In Hindi, "RRR" had a very good opening day, scoring approx. 19 crores net. It took a decent start in the morning shows but picked up towards the evening and night shows after highly positive word of mouth. The film was solid in tier 2 & 3 cities where is recorded houseful shows. ## State-wise, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were the top contributors with 102.5 crores gross, followed by Karnataka with 14.50 crores, Tamil Nadu with 10 crores, and Kerala with 4 crores. The rest of India including the Hindi belt generated 25 crores. ## Overseas, the film has had a record-breaking debut, grossing 67 crores. In the USA, "RRR" has taken the biggest opening for an Indian movie ever with $5.5 million (41.95 Cr.) on Friday, including Thursday previews of $3.3 million. The movie was strong in Australia as well and made $702K (4 Cr.) on the first day. Overall, the worldwide day 1 cume of "RRR" stands at 223 crores gross, beating "Baahubali 2" (218 cr.).## The epic period action drama film stars Ram Charan and Jr. NTR in the lead roles. Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt play extended cameo appearances while Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson, Olivia Morris, and Shriya Saran feature in supporting roles. The shoot of the film was recently completed and it is slated to release on April 13 worldwide. Hombale Films To Add Two More Movies In Its Growing Pan-India Library

Bangalore, March 26 - One of the biggest Kannada production houses, Hombale Films, fronted by Vijay Kiragandur, is gearing up for its biggest release yet in the form of Yash-starrer "KGF: Chapter 2". The Pan-India film, which is expected to break many existing box office records, will be debuting in theaters worldwide on April 14 in multiple languages. ## Directed by Prashanth Neel, "KGF 2" is the second part of the studios' hugely successful 2018's film that is currently the highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time with a worldwide cume of 238 crores. The sequel is carrying a lot of hype and buzz and is sure to take a mammoth opening, especially in the Hindi dubbed version. ## KGF is not the only Pan-India movie in the development under Hombale Films. The studios' "Salaar", fronted by superstar Prabhas is already in production and almost 30% shoot is completed. The Kannada-Telugu bilingual movie is being directed by Prashanth Neel, and there are strong reports that this movie will also be released in two parts. It will be released in multiple languages including Hindi and is touted to be as strong as KGF. ## Apart from the aforementioned movies, Hombale Films is working on two more Pan-India films, for which the official announcement will be made in the month of June. Vijay Kiragandur has confirmed the development of those films during a recent interview with Pinkvilla.## "We will be announcing two more Pan Indian films in the month of June. Salaar is our third and we will release it in five Indian languages", said the producer. ## Interestingly, Yash hasn't announced his next film after "KGF 2" yet, but he said to be reading multiple scripts before taking a final call on the film he would be working next. While this is a complete guess, I assume his next might be with Hombale Films again. Bengaluru, March 24 - Superstar Prabhas will return to the action with Prashanth Neel-directed "Salaar". The Pan-India movie was announced in 2020 with a release date in April 2021, but the shoot of the film kept getting delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic, resulting in the postponement of the arrival date.## Now, the producer of the film, Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, has provided some key updates regarding the shoot and tentative release date plans. The producer, in an interview with Pinkvilla, confirmed that the shoot of "Salaar" will resume in the month of May.## "We are shooting for about 30 percent of the film. Prabhas then got busy with the promotions of Radhe Shyam and Prashanth got tied up with the post-production of KGF 2. We resume shooting from the month of May", he said, adding that the entire shoot will be wrapped up by the end of this year. ## About the release date, Vijay said, "It will be a 2023 release. We intend to release it between the window of April to June". ## There has been a lot of speculation about the plot details of "Salaar" as many believe it will be in line with the "KGF" theme. However, the producer refused to provide any hint about its plot because of the strict interaction by director Neel. "There is a strict instruction from the director to not reveal the storyline, but working with Prabhas is a real pleasure", he added. ## It has been strongly reported that "Salaar" will be released in two-part like Yash-fronted "KGF", which is also produced by Hombale Films and directed by Neel. Vijay didn't deny the two-part release of the action thriller film but said that everything will be revealed in due course of time. ## "Salaar" marks Prabhas' maiden collaboration with Neel who is gearing up for the worldwide release of his highly-awaited "KGF: Chapter 2" on April 14. He also confirmed that director SS Rajamouli's father, KV Vijayendra Prasad would be returning to write the script after penning the original movie. ## Now, KV Vijayendra Prasad has provided further details about this anticipated film. In a conversation with Pinkvilla, the writer confirmed the development and said, "I had shared the story idea with Bhai (Salman Khan) sometime back and he liked it. I will start writing the script around May". ## The original movie, which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Harshaali Malhotra, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles, ended on happy and emotional, hinting about the completion of the story. The film will reportedly follow the same storyline as Mani Ratnam's 1992 romantic thriller, Roja. Mythri Movie Makers is producing the film, which will be adapted to attract the modern-day generation.## The latest development is that Anirudh Ravichander has been roped in to score the music of the film. The talented music director has previously composed the music of the films featuring the biggest stars of the country, including Rajinikanth, Jr. NTR, Ajith Kumar, Dhanush, Thalapathy Vijay, among others. Hyderabad, March 23 - The box office in India has started picking the pace and is expected to on its peak with the release of "RRR" from this Friday. The SS Rajamouli-directed has always been seen as a potential box office monster and even though it has been delayed multiple times, the talks around it never stopped making noise. ## Director Rajamouli has proved his box office prowess when "Baahubali" films were released in 2015 and 2017. Both "Baahubali" movies had combined grossed Rs. 2,438 crores worldwide, and went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film series worldwide. Though "RRR" is a one-part release, the expectation will be the same from this film. ## As things stand at present, "RRR" is poised to take the biggest opening in the original Telugu version. The biz in Telugu has received a major boost thanks to the hikes in ticket prices by Telugu state governments. Despite the high ticket prices, which are up to Rs. 5K for some of the benefit shows, the Telugu audiences have reacted positively and almost all the shows are booked in the biggest Telugu city, Hyderabad. ## As per the local Telugu trade portals and experts, "RRR" is expected to take the opening of Rs. 100 crores or more gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states alone. While the opening day figure in the said states seems too high, it can not be ruled out considering the involvement of star power in the film that is being led by two of the biggest Telugu superstars Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, apart from director Rajamouli.## Unlike Telugu, the Hindi biz, which is the second biggest market for the film, will solely depend on WOM and spot booking. The advance booking for the same is still slow. However, the trade is banking big in Hindi and are expecting the film to open between Rs. 15-20 crores. The face value of Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, who play extended cameos in the film, might help Hindi biz to get the momentum going in addition to the popularity of Rajamouli among the Hindi audiences. In Hindi, "RRR" is expected to release on 3400 screens which are enough for the film to take the big opening.## Apart from Telugu and Hindi, the Tamil version followed by Malayalam and Kannada may contribute 8-12 crores in the overall day 1 collection of the film. At the time of "Baahubali 2", Tamil was the 3rd biggest market for the film with an opening day collection of Rs. 17 crores net. ## Overall, "RRR" is anticipated to challenge the opening day figure of "Baahubali 2", which scored Rs. 121 crores net. The movie, however, has a tough task to perform as there is no guarantee of it to open as big as "Baahubali 2" in other languages apart from Telugu. Savarkar in the upcoming biopic, which was announced last year in May. The film will highlight India's freedom movement from a different spectrum and will be shot across various locations in London, Maharashtra, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands from June this year. ## "There are many heroes that have played their part in getting us our Independence.
