Will Fahadh Faasil's 'Malik' Head For Direct To OTT Release Despite Stern Warning From Kerala Film Body?

Kochi, June 9, 2021: Malayalam superstar Fahadh Faasil's upcoming political crime drama film, Malik is one of the most waited Malayalam films. The movie was scheduled for May 13 release on the occasion of Eid in theaters, however, the devastating second wave of the covid-19 pandemic forced the makers to postpone it once again. ## Fahadh Faasil's 'Malik' has been effectively postponed on multiple occasions. Now, as theaters are closed and there is no information when they will open, there are rumours that Malik is heading for direct-to-digital release. Intrestingly, Faasil's previous three films - C U Soon, Irul, and Joji, directly landed on OTT platforms, which angers Kerala Film Body. ## The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) had warned Fahadh Faasil to refrain from releasing his movies directly on OTTs by overlooking theaters. The Film Body had said in a statement that his films will not be allowed to release in theatres if he continues to release his films on OTT platforms. ## Now, the question is, will Fahadh Faasil overlook Film Body's warning or he will wait for cinemas to reopen and release Malik at the ultimate medium of Entertainment? While there is no clarity yet on this, there is one thing is for sure that he might have to face conscience if his releases Malik directly on OTT platform. ## While Faasil's decision remains in question, the theaters owners will be hoping that the movie releases in cinemas as they have been badly affected due to the covid-19 pandemic. Keerthy's Good Luck Sakhi, a romantic sports comedy was all set to be released theatrically on 3 June 2021, however, the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic played a spoilsport as makers had to postpone it further. ## Now, as theaters are closed again and the movie is ready for release for quite some time now, there are rumours that Good Luck Sakhi is going for a direct-to-digital release. However, on Monday (June 7), the makers of the film quashed the rumours of releasing their film directly to a streaming service. Mumbai, June 8, 2021: India's one of the biggest production houses, Yash Raj Films had pledged to vaccinate the members of the Hindi film industry so that they can resume work at the earliest. On Tuesday, Aditya Chopra has started the much-needed vaccination drive at Yash Raj Films (YRF) studios, which aims to vaccinate around 4000 workers in the first phase.## The Studio has pledged that it will do its best to vaccinate 30,000 registered members of the FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees). The company has already vaccinated its employees in an earlier drive that happened within the YRF Studios in Mumbai. ## The vax drive, initiated by filmmaker Aditya Chopra of YRF, looks to facilitate the resumption of day-to-day activity in Bollywood.## Akshaye Widhani, Senior Vice President, Yash Raj Films, said, "After inoculating all the employees at YRF, we started vaccinating the crew members of our films and we are now delighted to have started the vaccination drive for the Hindi film industry. This will result in the daily wage earners of our industry returning to work and provide financial stability for themselves and their families".## "The drive will have to take place in phases, given the huge number of vaccines that are required to cover the industry. In the first phase, which starts today, we would be able to inoculate at least 3500-4000 people. However, the Telugu film industry did refrain from adopting this medium so early and it got a reward for showing courage by going for theatrical release. ## Ravi Teja starrer Krack, which was released on January 9, was the first Indian blockbuster movie during the covid-19 pandemic era. The movie released amid a lot of uncertainty and grossed over Rs. 60 crore worldwide and paved the way for others to follow. Now, actor Ravi Teja is gearing up for the release of his next, Khiladi. ## Khiladi was supposed to release on May 28, however, the second wave of the covid-19 hit makers' plan out of the park and forced them to postpone the release date. Though there are rumors that Khiladi will skip theatrical release and opt for an OTT release, director Ramesh Verma says that is not going to happen and they will wait for the theaters to open. He even went on to say that, unlike last year, there is no excitement for direct to OTT release this year. ## "Khiladi is a 100 percent theater film. Many films released online last year. There is no such excitement this year. The audience tends to watch films in parts on streaming platforms and the entire family does not get to sit together and watch a film peacefully. Earlier, both Akshay and Paresh Rawal were supposed to return in the sequel but now, it looks like Mr. Rawal is no longer a part of it, instead, Pankaj Tripathi has been roped in to play Rawal's role. ## While the official announcement about the film and characters is yet to be made, we have now got to know that Yami Gautam has been cast to play the female lead in the film. The actress recently got married to her Uri: The Surgical Strike director, Aditya Dhar, and kicked off the next chapter of her life. ## "Yami Gautam will play the female lead in Oh My God 2, and she has a very crucial role in the story. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the movie features Ajay Devgn as Bhagat Singh - a freedom fighter who fought for Indian independence along with fellow members of the Hindustan Republic Association. ## As the movie completes 19 years, Ajay Devgn took to social media and panned down a thoughtful post about Bhagat Singh. It chronicles Bhagat Singh's life from his childhood where he witnesses the Jallianwala Bagh massacre until the day he was hanged to death on 23 March 1931. ## Apart from Ajay Devgn, the movie also starred Sushant Singh, D. Santosh, Akhilendra Mishra, and Amrita Rao as the other lead characters while Raj Babbar and Farida Jalal played supporting roles. The music of the film, which is still one of the best albums, was composed by A. R. Rahman. ## The movie received a positive response for the direction, story, screenplay, and performances of Devgn and Sushant receiving the most attention, however, it underperformed at the box office, grossing only approx Rs. 110 million in the budget of around Rs. 180 million.
