Thalapathy Vijay's 'Varisu' Pre-Release Business Is Eye-Popping

Chennai, November 16 - Thalapathy Vijay's much-awaited family action drama film Varisu is getting ready to release on Pongal 2023. It is arguably the biggest Indian film releasing on Sankranthi 2023 among the other films like Ajith Kumar's "Thunivu", Megastar Chiranjeevi's "Waltair Veerayya", and Nandamuri Balakrishna's "Veera Simha Reddy". ## Thalapathy Vijay carries a massive loyal fan following and this is clearly tempting makers to set things higher for "Varisu" as far as its pre-release business is concerned. It is the stardom of Tamil superstar which has already helped producers to fetch mammoth profits before its release. ## As per industry insiders, the Vamshi Paidipally-directed film has done the pre-release business of eye-popping approx. 270 crores, without Telugu states. The Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of the movie have been sold for approx. 70 crores to Seven Screen Studio, which is mighty impressive considering the fact that it will clash with "Thunivu" at the box office. ## The overseas rights of the movie have reportedly been acquired by Phars Films in approx. 35 crores, which is the highest ever for a Thalapathy Vijay film. The Hindi dubbing rights have been done in approx. 32 crores, followed by Kerala and Karnataka theatrical rights in approx. 14 crores. T-Series has music rights in approx. 10 crores. Amazon Prime Video is the post-theatrical streaming partner of the movie, for which the streamer paid approx. 60 crores. Sun TV has satellite rights for approx. 50 crores.## The phenomenal pre-release business of "Varisu" re-affirm that Thlapathy Vijay is miles ahead of its contemporaries in star power. Vijay's last film "Beast" is the perfect example of his star power as the movie got really poor reviews from critics but still, it managed to gross over 200 crores worldwide, making it a profitable venture for the makers. ## "Varisu" is produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. Sooraj Barjatya's 'Uunchai' On Course To Become A Rare Bollywood Box Office Hit

Mumbai, November 15 - The proven Bollywood filmmaker, Sooraj Barjatya is once again paving the way for bringing family audiences back to theaters amid the continued disappointment within the film industry with his latest flick Uunchai.## The adventure friendship drama film was released on November 11 on comparatively limited screens of less than 500, however, the makers could have easily booked around 2500 screens. It is Barjatya's tried and tested release formula which has worked wonders in the past.## At a time when many low to mid-budget films are falling drastically, "Uunchai" took the opening of 1.81 crores net, which is not big by Bollywood standards but much better for its release size. Hyderabad, November 14 - The OTT platforms have been on the rise since the covid-19 pandemic and they have also caused threats to the theatrical biz, especially the low and medium-budgeted films. To save small films, the Tollywood film industry recently announced some rules regarding post-theatrical OTT releases.## The Tollywood producers decided in August this year that all producers must hold their theatrical movies for at least weeks before releasing them on digital platforms. It was a welcome move from the producers' council and was lauded by the filmmakers. ## Despite the big promises, it seems the Telugu producers have forgotten their own rules regarding OTT releases, making a mockery of the so-called unity in the Producers council. Since the rule has come into effect, there have many films that haven't followed the 6-week rule. ## Movies like Swathi Muthyam and Ori Devuda were released on OTT within 3 weeks. Nagarjuna Akkineni's "The Ghost" too didn't follow the rule and was available to stream on the digital platform within 4 weeks. The thing here to notice is that producers do not follow rules if they are not beneficial for them. ## The Telugu film industry has been one of the major contributors to the all-India theatrical business post the covid-19 pandemic, but the early OTT release of the films has been affecting distributors and theater owners the most. Los Angeles, November 14 - Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominated the domestic as well as the overseas box office in its opening weekend. The superhero movie grossed a mighty $331.3 million worldwide. ## The sequel to the 2018's film demolished the record for a November opening in North America with $181 million, storming past the previous record mark of $158 million set by 2013's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Overseas, it minted $150.3 million from 55 markets.## The $250 million budget flick could have achieved more had it been released in China and Russia, two huge theatrical markets where Marvel and other major Hollywood movies are no longer releasing due to various reasons. The first "Black Panther" grossed $1.4 billion globally, including $105 million in China and $19 million in Russia. ## "Wakanda Forever" has the second biggest opening weekend of 2022 at the domestic (North America) box office, behind the $187.4 million debut of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". Mumbai, November 13 - Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forver clocks a very good opening weekend at the Indian box office, grossing approx. 47 crores ($5.83M). It grossed an estimated 17 crores on Sunday for all languages, jumping approx. 5% from Saturday collection. ## "Black Panther 2", however, scored lower as compared to the previous Marvel movies in India in 2022. The last Marvel movie "Thor: Love and Thunder" had grossed approx. 55 crores in the first three days while "Doctor Strange 2" scored a gigantic approx. 94 crores in the opening weekend. BP2 will need to put a strong hold over the weekdays for a good lifetime score at the Indian box office.## Sooraj Barjatya's adventure drama film Uunchai has shown another big jump on Sunday. With approx. 40% growth from Saturday, the movie scored an estimated 6 crores gross (5.05 crores net), pushing total gross collection to approx. 12.40 crores (10.30 crores net) in 3 days, which is a good result for a film that has a limited release. ## The advance booking of "Uunchai" for Monday is decent, which indicates it might top the opening day numbers on its 4th day. If the trend remains throughout the first week, the movie could well become a rare mid-range hit for Bollywood at the box office. ## Meanwhile, Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Yashoda is having an almost similar day at the box office as Saturday. Telugu Producers Council Asks Producer Dil Raju To Not Prioritise Tamil Movie In Telugu States

Hyderabad, November 13 - Thalapathy Vijay's family action drama film Varisu/Vaarasudu is unlikely to get a big release in Telugu states despite the film being directed by senior and one of the biggest Telugu producers Dil Raju. ## "Varisu" is a Tamil movie that will also release in Telugu as "Vaarasudu". It is directed by Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally. Producer Dil Raju holds a huge command over the theatrical exhibition of the films and it was one of the reasons that he was able to book more theaters than the direct Telugu movies for "Varisu" in Telugu states.## Now, Telugu Producers Council has taken note of the aforementioned situation and has asked Dil Raju to not prioritize dubbed movies over direct Telugu films.
