Box Office: Kantara Sets Eyes On 400 Crores Worldwide

Bengaluru, November 11 - Rishab Shetty's mega-blockbuster Kantara is on a record-breaking spree at the box office and setting new benchmarks for low-budget films with each passing day. ## Who had thought that a film, which opened to below 2 crore net, would cross 100 crores, probably on one? But such has been the response to the film that even 100 crores have become a thing of the past as "Kantara" is now looking to reach 4X of 100 crores. ## As of today (November 11), the adventure action thriller film has grossed approx. 360 crores worldwide in 42 days. The movie has proved to be a horse of the long race and going by the current trend, it is not going to stop anytime soon. ## Despite new releases every week, "Kantara" continues to score over 2 crores net every day for all languages. While the movie will get slow at the box office from today onwards due to the challenge from notable releases, the movie still has an outside chance to breach 400 crores gross mark globally. ## Apart from reaching the milestone at the global box office, "Kantara" also has a chance to create history at the Karnataka box office by becoming the highest-grossing film ever in the state. Currently, Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 is the number 1 movie in the state with approx. 182 crores whereas "Kantara" is not far behind with approx. 173 crores. ## The Hombale Films production is also in the race to breach 100 crores net in the dubbed Hindi version. It has netted approx. 70 crores in 28 days of its Hindi release and remains of the possible contenders to reach the milestone in its full run. Chennai, November 10 - Tamil actor Karthi has taken giant steps over the last year as he has delivered three back-to-back hits at the box office in the form of "Viruman", "Ponniyin Selvan-1", and "Sardar". His performances in these films were lauded the most, especially in multistarrer "PS-1". ## It seems all the stars are aligning for Karthi as his future film slate is looking super impressive and a potential blockbuster to say the least. Among the confirmed films Karthi has in the pipeline, Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan Part - 2, is eyeing April 28, 2023, release. ## "PS-1" has been a massive blockbuster and has so far grossed over 480 crores at the worldwide box office. The second part of the film has created enough curiosity among the audiences and is expected to score higher numbers than the first part. ## Apart from "PS-2", Karthi started a new film titled Japan a couple of days ago. It is being directed by Raju Murugan who has previously directed films like "Joker", which won the National Award for the Best Tamil film, along with "Cuckoo", and "Gypsy".## According to the latest reports, Karthi will team up with "Kanna" director Arunraja Kamaraj for Karthi 26. There are not much details available about this project but it is expected to go on floors after "Japan". ## Apart from the aforementioned films, Karthi will be teaming up with director Lokesh Kangaraj for the sequel to "Kaithi". "Kaithi 2" is probably the most-awaited film of the Karthi and it is expected to become the biggest solo-grosser of his career. Los Angeles, November 9 - Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated superhero sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to take a huge opening at the domestic (North America) as well as overseas box office. In North America, the movie will open in approx. 4300 theaters.## The sequel to director Ryan Coogler's 2018's film has already scored $45 million in advance sales in the US, and by the time it hit screens, the advance booking is expected to reach $60 million - $65 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ## As of Sunday, "Wakanda Forever's" advance ticket sales in the U.S. stood at $45 million, which is more than "Thor: Love and Thunder" but behind "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness", as per THR. The first Black Panther film collected $55 million in advance sales and its successor is likely to top that with ease.## "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is tracking to earn around $360 million globally in its opening weekend. In North America, the projection for the opening weekend is around $185 million while the overseas projection is approx. $180 million, cumulative suggesting a blockbuster start. ## Meanwhile, "Wakanda Forever" is also being adored by the critics who were heavily criticized for the recently released DCEU flick "Black Adam". "Black Panther 2's" critics' score currently stands at 88% from 128 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It is, however, low compared to its predecessor which scored 96% score. ## The sequel's journey to the big screen endured its own tragedy when Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular role of T'Challa/Black Panther in the 2018 film, died of colon cancer in August 2020. However, despite the moral killing failure, distributors' confidence in the actor hasn't dropped as his next film Kushi is in red hot demand. ## Directed by Shiva Nirvana, "Kushi" is a romantic comedy film that also stars lady superstar Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the female lead role. The first-time combo of VD and Samantha is doing wonders for the makers as the non-theatrical and overseas rights of the film have fetched fancy deals for them. ## According to the latest Telugu media reports, the digital, satellite, music, and overseas rights of "Kushi" have been sold for approx. 90 crores. Phars Films, which has been a regular collaborator of South Indian films, has grabbed overseas theatrical rights at a handsome price. ## "Kushi" is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and it also stars Vennela Kishore, Rahul Ramakrishna, Murali Sharma, and others in key roles. It has already become the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time and the first to reach PKR100 crores worldwide. ## Directed by Bilal Lashari, "The Legend Of Maula Jatt" achieved the milestone of PKR 100 crores within just two weeks. The worldwide gross total collection of the film currently stands at approx. PKR172 crores through the 4th Sunday, including 62 crores in Pakistan and PKR110 crores overseas. ## Meanwhile, at the UK box office, the Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan-fronted film has outscored Indian mega-blockbusters "KGF: Chapter 2" (£1.14M), "Brahmastra Part One: Shiva" (£1.03M) and "RRR" (£977k) to become the second biggest South Asian film in the UK in 2022. Los Angeles, November 8 - The long-awaited sequel to "Avatar", Avatar: The Way of Water is finally hitting theaters this December, and the upcoming movie could decide how far the "Avatar" franchise would go.## "The Way of Water" has been anticipated to go bonkers at the box office and its sequel, which arrives in 2024, may also get huge help from its predecessor's success. There are two more "Avatar" films slated to release in 2026 and 2028, however, the future of those two films depends on how "Avatar 2 and 3" perform at the box office. ## James Cameron, in a recent interview with Total Films, told that he may cancel "Avatar 4 and 5" if the sequel to "The Way of Water" underperforms at the box office. "The market could be telling us we're done in three months, or we might be semi-done, meaning: 'OK, let's complete the story within movie three, and not go on endlessly' if it's just not profitable", he said. ## The first "Avatar" movie was released in 2009 but Cameron said that a lot has changed ever since, especially in the post-covid-19 era where the audiences' taste has changed. "We're in a different world now than we were when I wrote this stuff", Cameron said.## "It's the one-two punch – the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, maybe we'll remind people what going to the theatre is all about. This film definitely does that. RRR Japan Box Office Collection: Becomes The 3rd Highest-Grossing Indian Film

Tokyo, November 7 - SS Rajamouli's mega-blockbuster RRR has become the third highest-grossing Indian film at the Japan box office, crossing Aamir Khan's comedy-drama "3 Idiots". ## The Jr. NTR and Ram Charan-starrer completed 17 days at the Japan box office and crossed the 10 crores mark. It grossed ¥185 million (Rs. 10.34 crores) through the third Sunday. "3 Idiots" grossed ¥170 million in its lifetime run in Japan and is now slipped to 4th position. ## The period action drama film also scored 122K footfalls in Japan in 17 days. The movie has been running on 209 screens, including 31 IMAX screens across 44 locations. It is the fastest Indian film to achieve these footfalls, scoring another milestone in Japan. ## "RRR's" worldwide gross collection has now reached 1125 crores, including over 220 crores at the overseas box office. In Japan, the film might reach at number 2 in its full run.
