IPL 2023 Sets A New Television Viewership Record On Disney Star

Mumbai, June 2 - The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has turned out to be a massive blockbuster on television. The recently concluded cricket mega event set a new viewership record on Star Sports chennals. ## As per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data shared by the official broadcaster Disney Star, IPL 2023 recorded 496 million (49.6 crores) viewership till the play-off stage on Star Sports, breaking the previous record set during IPL 2020. ## The 496 million viewers spent a total of 40.9 billion minutes in order to watch the tournament on TV and this doesn't include the final match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.## According to the numbers provided by the network (via Outlook India), the Qualifier 2 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans recorded a peak concurrency of 61 million (6.1 crores), making it the most viewed IPL playoff match ever. ## Previously, the highest concurrency (5.6 crores) for the current edition was recorded during the Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans match. The playoff matches recorded a 44% jump compared to the last season. ## Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star, said, "We are overjoyed that friends, families & communities have come together to enjoy IPL on Disney Star and want to thank all fans for their overwhelming support".## MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings emerged the winner of this highly successful tournament, beating Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans in the final. ## Stay tuned...

Mumbai, June 2 - After the slow start in the morning, Maddock Films' Zara Hatke Zara Bachke picked up well during the day to post a healthy opening day at the box office. ## The movie had scored a decent advance booking which indicated a 3 crores start. However, the buy one get one offer helped the film to do well during the day as early estimates suggest around 5.50 crores net opening day. The number might reach 6 crores net which remains to see. ## Considering the low pre-release buzz, the opening of 5.50-6 crores can be termed very good for a movie featuring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan. The last theatrical release of Kaushal "Bhoot – Part One" took the opening of 5.10 crores and that was in the pre-pandemic era. ## Should the movie actually open at 5.50 crores or with a little difference here and there, it is good news as the industry really needed the mid-range films to at least, open well before word of mouth comes into the play and ZHZB has been able to do that.## Apart from the buy one get one offer, the trade believes that keeping the low ticket prices has also helped the movie on its opening day and is up for a good opening weekend. New Delhi, June 2 - Telugu actor Rana Daggubati believes that superstar Prabhas' upcoming film Project K with director Nag Ashwin will open new territories for Telugu cinema worldwide. ## Daggubati, who played the main antagonist in SS Rajamouli's blockbuster "Baahubali" films, took part in India Today Conclave South 2023 in which he spoke about the growing reputation of the Telugu film industry.## During the event, Rana said that "Project K" has the potential to become the next big thing in Indian cinema and could break boundaries that Rajamouli couldn't with his "Baahubali" and "RRR". "We celebrate each other's cinema fully. Like there is another film called Project K, which Nag Ashwin is directing with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, that's a film we are really looking forward to in Telugu", he said.## Both "Baahubali" and "RRR" are considered path-breaking films where the former opened the gate for Telugu cinema to score big in other languages while the latter took things internationally and gave Rajamouli global fame. ## "That film will, I think will, break the boundaries that both Baahubali and RRR haven't done", Rana further said adding "Pushing that boundary to the next edge. I am really looking forward to that film, and it could really become a global film from Telugu (cinema)".## "Project K", which is a sci-fi, is currently in production for January 2024 release. There are reports that the movie may release in two parts, however, the makers haven't made that official yet. Kochi, June 2 - All-time Malayalam blockbuster 2018 soaring to new heights at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. Having already broken most of the box office records, "2018" has now claimed another milestone. ## Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, "2018" has grossed 101.30 crores through the 4th Thursday (24 days) which makes it the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time at the Indian box office, beating Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan" which grossed an estimated 100 crores (numbers might be manipulated). ## The Malayalam trade sources are divided over "Pulimurugan's" box office collection as some of them claim that it didn't cross 100 crores domestically while some claim otherwise. Taking average numbers of Mohanlal-starrer into account, then "2018" is the second 100 crores grosser Malayalam movie ever in India. ## The worldwide box office collection of "2018" has reached 170 crores, including approximately 68.70 crores of overseas collection. As reported earlier, the movie is already the highest-grossing Malayalam title worldwide and internationally along with some other records to its name. ## "2018", produced by Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Production, is based on actual events during the 2018 Kerala floods. Los Angeles, June 2 - Sony Pictures' animated superhero movie Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is up for a fantastic opening weekend at the domestic (North America) box office after scoring the second biggest Thursday previews for an animated title. ## The sequel to "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" (2018) grabbed eyeballs with an excellent $17.40 million off previews that began at 3 PM domestically. This is the second-biggest preview for an animated movie ever after Disney/Pixar's "Incredibles 2" ($18.5M) in 2018. ## Riding high with rave reviews, "Across The Spider-Verse" Thursday previews gross is 4.5x more than what the first film "Into The Spider-Verse" did which was $3.5 million before putting the 3-day opening weekend of $35.3 million. ## The Hollywood Trade initially projected a $75 million - $90 million opening weekend for the sequel, however, after the fantastic Thursday previews, the projection is now $115 million - $125 million which will be more than thrice of the first film. The chances are high for the movie to post such numbers knowing that "Incredibles 2" went on to score a mammoth $182.6 million weekend which is the biggest ever for an animated movie. ## Meanwhile, "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" also has a good start in India, scoring over 5 crores gross ($610K) on Thursday opening day across all languages. Hyderabad, June 2 - Producer Allu Arvind backed Geetha Arts has announced multiple big-budget films for the next few years. The studio, which has delivered some of the big-budget blockbusters in the past, has been bankrolling low to mid-budget for some time now. ## Geetha Arts recently released the Telugu dubbed version of the Malayalam movie "2018" and scored a success with it. During the success meet recently, Allu Arvind revealed that going forward, Geetha Arts will produce larger-than-life entertainers while continuing to produce mid-cost movies. ## The producer revealed that he has signed star Telugu directors Boyapati Srinu and Surender Reddy along with the recent hitmaker, Karthikeya director Chandoo Mondeti for his upcoming projects. The studio is in talks with some of the superstars to headline these projects. ## "Our project with Boyapati Garu is in the scripting stage. Two-star heroes are in consideration for this project", Allu Arvind said and revealed that "Agent" director Surender Reddy is also working on the script work for a huge project. "Chandoo Mondeti will be directing three projects for Geetha Arts. Two scripts have been finalized already, and one of them will be made with a budget of nearly Rs 300 crore", he added.## While the studio hasn't revealed the details much, there is buzz that one of the films by Chandoo Mondeti will be with Tamil superstar Suriya. The director has previously revealed that he is in talks with Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan for a sci-fi film and the duo might team up for the same under the Geetha Arts banner.## Apart from the aforementioned projects, Allu Arvind will also be bankrolling a Pan India movie featuring his son, superstar Allu Arjun with director Trivikram Srinivas. Producer Amy Pascal Teases Two More Spider-Man Movies

Los Angeles, June 1 - Sony Pictures' animated superhero movie "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" finally hits theaters this weekend worldwide amid roaring critics' scores, indicating that the studio might have a massive winner in their hands. ## As "Across the Spider-Verse" has been released, the producers have set their eyes on the third installment "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" which releases in March next year. Now, the good news is that the 3rd movie is not the only Spider-Man project in the makers' minds. ## Producer Amy Pascal confirmed to Variety's reporter Marc Malkin at the "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" premiere in Los Angeles that the studio is already working on "Spider-Woman" movie along with the live-action version of Miles Morales. The "Spider-Woman" movie will hit screens sooner than one can expect, according to Pascal. ## Apart from the aforementioned "Spider-Man" movies, Pascal also said that the already announced fourth "Spider-Man" movie with Tom Holland and Zendaya is still in the works, but the writers' strike has paused development. Once the strike is over, they will start working on the script. Now, it is reported that Atlee is in advanced talks with Anushka Sharma to play the female lead role and the actress is said to have given her nod to star in the film. ## Atlee will be producing this film with Murad Khetani while Tamil director Kalees is reportedly on board to direct it. The makers were previously in talks with Janhvi Kapoor for the female lead role but she reportedly turned it down citing date issues. Mumbai, May 31 - Universal Pictures' action thriller film Fast X has turned into a big success at the Indian box office. The Vin Deisel-fronted movie is performing well during the second week and has crossed the 100 crores net box office mark in all versions. ## The 10th main installment in the "Fast & Furious" franchise scored around 100.15 crores net collection in 14 days after scoring 2.05 crores on its second Wednesday. It has become the first Hollywood movie to enter the 100 crores net club in India.## The last Hollywood movie to enter the Century box office club in India was James Cameron's all-time blockbuster "Avatar: The Way of Water" which went on to score over 390 crores in all languages. Overall, "Fast X" is the 11th Hollywood movie of all time and 5th post the covid-19 pandemic to breach the 100 crores mark in India. ## Language-wise, the Hindi version is leading the overall collection of "Fast X" with 47.60 crores, followed by the original English version with 45.61 crores while other versions have scored around 5 crores net through 2nd Tuesday. ## At the worldwide box office, "Fast X" has topped $500 million.
