Mumbai, July 20 - The Independence Day 2024 weekend is shaping up to be the most important weekend for the filmmakers who are busy blocking the slot for their respective films. There are nearly a dozen films already lined up to release on August 15 and some of them are potential big-money spinners.## The Hindi box office can see one of the biggest weekends of the year starting on Independence Day. Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's horror-comedy Stree 2 is easily the most anticipated movie to release during the period, however, it won't have a smooth ride at the box office as there 5 other major films ready to compete with it. ## The biggest competitor of Stree 2 will be Akshay Kumar's comedy-drama Khel Khel Mein, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, and Pragya Jaiswal, among others. Though Akshay's last few films haven't worked at the box office, Khel Khel Mein can spring a major surprise. ## John Abraham's action drama Vedaa another Bollywood film scheduled to be released on August 15. Mumbai, July 18 - The Hindi box office may have another surprise winner this weekend in Dharma Productions' comedy drama Bad Newz, starring Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, and Ammy Virk in the leading roles. The movie is directed by Anand Tiwari and co-produced by Leo Media Collective. ## The film's advance booking opened a couple of days ago and unlike its title, the booking trend has been good news for the industry and the makers in particular. In comparison to previous movies, the pre-sales of Bad Newz are much better than most of them and it even topped Kareena Kapoor, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon's Crew after the superb jump in the last hours. ## Crew although opened to 9.25 crores net is still one of the biggest openers of the year and Bad Newz will look to come close to these numbers. The action thriller, which will mark SRK's daughter Suahana Khan's big-screen debut, has been in the news since last year despite no official announcement from the makers yet. Now, as the movie is gearing up to commence shooting in the next few weeks, the makers are speeding up to lock the rest of the cast. According to the report by Peepingmoon.com, Abhishek Bachchan has been locked in to play the antagonist role to take on Shah Rukh Khan in this big-scale action entertainer. As reported previously, SRK will be playing the role of Don while Suhana Khan will be in the parallel lead, essaying the role of a young girl who finds herself in perilous circumstances after a life-altering incident. It will be the first major negative role for Abhishek Bachchan, who was said to be surprised by the character when it was offered to him but accepted it immediately, intrigued by the depth of the role. It is said to be a special role, and Siddharth Anand, who produces the film with SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment, has grand plans to present Abhishek in a manner audiences have never seen before. Mumbai, July 12 - Akshay Kumar's drama film Sarfira takes a low start at the box office with poor occupancy throughout the day. The movie was expected to see some boost due to the positive reviews which don't seem happening as it opens in the range of Selfiee. ## Sarfira, directed by Sudha Kongara, has had pre-sales between Akshay Kumar's previous two low starters, Selfiee and Mission Raniganj which indicated a low start which turns out to be true as it scored an estimated 2.25-2.50 crores net opening day. ## The movie was always going to open in a similar range due to its remake status which has struggled in the post-COVID era, and its subject which doesn't have mass appeal. The initial word of mouth, however, seems to be positive which can come into play over the weekend but it will be hard for it to make up for the very low opening. ## Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (Hindi) also has a poor start which was expected due to negligible pre-sales. As per the early estimates, the movie is expected to open in the range of 1.25 crores net collection which might vary on either side when the actuals come. ## Indian 2, however, has a much better showing in all versions on its opening day as it is expected to score an estimated 25-26 crores net (30-31 crores gross) collection. The movie has opened on the expected lines with a slightly lower of the optimistic projections. ## In Tamil Nadu, it is expected to gross in the range of 13+ crores, followed by 9-10 crores in Telugu states which is a good collection. The rest of India gross of the movie is estimated to be around 8 crores, including around 4 crores in Karnataka. It is the 121st film to enter the 100 crores net club in the Hindi language.## Munjya is the fourth movie of the year to hit the 100 crores net mark in Hindi, which also includes Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD which is currently the biggest Hindi grosser of the year at the domestic box office with over 232 crores net collection. ## Starring Sharvari Wagh and Abhay Verma in the leading roles, Munjya is the maiden 100-crore net movie for the duo as well as for director Aditya Sarpotdar. Mumbai, July 11 - Akshay Kumar's biographical drama Sarfira, a remake of the Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru, is finally hitting the big screens on July 12 after multiple delays and postponements. The movie is directed by Sudha Kongara who also directed the original movie starring Suriya. ## Sarfira has been the most anticipated new movie for the last couple of weeks, as per the IMDb's real-time popularity but the pre-sales response is telling a completely different story. The advance booking of Sarfira opened a couple of days ago but it has been progressing at a snail's pace and is not going anywhere. ## As of 4 PM on July 11, the pre-sales gross collection of Sarfira is only approximately 32 lakh with 15.6K sold for the opening day. With not much time left for the first show to start, the advance sales of the movie are heading for around 50+ lakh for the opening day which is very low. ## In comparison to the previous movies of Akshay, the pre-sales of Sarfira are trending a little above Selfiee which finished opening day sales at just around 40 lahks, and below Mission Raniganj (76 lakh gross), which are among the lowest for the actor in many years. Sarfira's pre-sales will probably finish somewhere between Selfiee and Mission Raniganj.## Selfiee opened at around 2.50 crores net while Mission Ranigang took the start of 2.80 crores net and a similar sort of opening is expected for Sarfira with a possibility of 3+ crores start depending on word of mouth.
